My Punta Cana Odyssey – Chapter 2

My Punta Cana Odyssey – Chapter 2

Greetings Team Bovada,

Well, we've finally made it! We're down here at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino living it up. The first day was filled with lots of travel. We left RI at midnight, drove to NY, and then flew to Punta Cana. We did not sleep much, but saved enough fuel in our tanks to party hard with Team Bovada at Club Oro. They hooked us up with free drinks and the dancing was bananas!

Just being here is a surreal experience. Wherever we go, everything is free. "I'll have a large pizza, a pina colada, three chickens and a jelly donut." BOOM FREE! And the scenery is awesome. I feel like I'm walking around in one of those framed posters at the mall. Today we swam up to a bar that's in the middle of a swimming pool. They even had bar stools in the water. Boo yah!

The tournament began today and I was pretty nervous. I usually play micro stakes and freerolls on Bovada, so that kind of high stakes action was intimidating. But the nerves faded pretty quickly once I sat down and won a few pots. I also kept reminding myself of how blessed I was to even be here, and that kept me level-headed throughout the action. This trip itself is a win! After about seven hours, my stack had gotten pretty low and I knew I was moving towards shove or fold time. I continued to catch rags for a while, but I knew I was going to have to make a move soon. When I had just under fifteen big blinds remaining, there was a hand where the dealer accidentally exposed my second card. It was the queen of spades and I had a bad feeling so I didn't even want to look. When I did, I saw that the first card was the queen of clubs. Yikes, I would have had pocket queens! It was a rough situation, but there was nothing I could do about it. A few hands later, I was dealt A-10 in the cut off position. There was no action in front of me so I shoved. I figured I had built a tight image and I mostly likely would take the blinds and antes, I certainly wasn't expecting to run into pocket kings. The flop came J-8-9, giving me the open ended straight draw to go with my over card. I was feeling good about all of my outs, but I missed and that was that. A-10 might haunt me for a while, but for now I'm going to party like crazy while I’m still down here. Keep on grinding in the free world Team Bovada!
